Chapter 13

"Listen," Dev says, squeezing her shoulders. "You have got it all wrong."

Thrusting her palms on his pecks, Zhuri pulls away. Her heart thumps as she steps back. "Get out of here."

He stays in one place, his eyes fixed on her. "Will you listen to me for a second?"

Though it's a question, it doesn't sound like one. He says it as if he's warning her. Zhuri gulps and points at the door. "Leave now."

"Why are you acting this way?" he asks. "Just listen to me."

She has listened to him enough to know he's a control freak. Deep down, she knows he won't physically hurt her because he's the male lead, yet her breaths won't stop racing. A man almost twice her size has locked her inside her own house, and he wants to know why she's afraid of him. "Leave my house," she tries to command, but it sounds like a plea.

"I care about you," he says. "I only do things that are best for you."

"Shut up!" she shouts. If he tells her he cares about her one more time, she might punch him in the face. "Get out of my house," she says, dashing towards the door.

Before she reaches it, Dev grabs her and pins her against the wall. His warm breaths touch her lips as he gets closer.

Closing her eyes, she squirms in his grasp. "Let go," she screams.

"I'm not going to hurt you," he whispers near her mouth.

Zhuri's lips shiver as she opens her lids. Dev is still holding her wrists on the wall. She wants to shout more, but her breath has turned too erratic for that. The door to her left is still closed, and for some reason, appears far away. Her heart pounds as she faces Dev. "Leave me," she quivers.

"I love you," he says, while holding her forcibly. "I'll never hurt you."

There's no way this man understands love. His grip is too tight for her to even move a little, and it's probably stopping the blood flow in her palms. "This is not how you show affection," she says. "You are hurting me now."

For a while, Dev doesn't move. He keeps looking into her scared eyes. Releasing her, he steps back and raises his hands placatingly. "Everything I did was for you. I want you to have a comfortable life."

Now he's making life decisions for her. He won't even bother asking her what she wants, and the worst thing is, he actually believes what he's doing is love.

A tingling sensation spreads across Zhuri's palms as rubs her wrist and moves away from him. She can see his finger marks on her skin, but the male lead is not supposed to hurt her. How can anyone believe this is love? She clasps her fingers to stop her arms from shivering.

"You misunderstood me," he says. "I was not stalking you. I was keeping an eye on you. Keeping you safe."

The only safety she needs is from him.

"Ever since I met you, I can't stop thinking about you," he says.
